NYC

I have been planning a 6-12-month sabbatical of sorts in Paris, France. I plan to travel, work from abroad, find inspiration, learn some French, and eat a lot of cheese. Flying Half-way around the world, I figured that it was the perfect opportunity to make a pit-stop in New York City for a few days. I stayed at the charming Jane Hotel in a 50sqft (seriously) bunk-bed room. What more do you need?

NYC is a special place. Take a look at some of the captures I made while there:

The newly opened One World Trade Center, AKA Freedom Tower. The 9/11 memorial nearby was very powerful.

Central Park has a bit of a surreal quality about it. This is Sheep Meadow. A beautiful lawn with incredible architecture on all sides. The scale has to be seen.

An idea that I may re-visit in the future. This is Bryony standing in front of Barnett Newman's 18' wide Vir Heroicus Sublimis in the MOMA.

British Properties Contemporary

I had the opportunity recently to shoot a doozie of a home in the British Properties in West Vancouver. Shooting at twilight during the summer solstice makes for a bit of a long night, but it was worth it! Even though it presents its own set of challenges, I really like making photos of interiors at this time of day.

Endless angles to shoot in a beautiful home like this, so it was tough to pick and choose a few to share below. Enjoy!

Featured on the Vancouver Is Awesome Blog

Recently, Vancouver's "best local blog", Vancouver Is Awesome, featured a photo of mine on their website and Instagram account. Every day, they pick their favourite Instagram photo of the day and share it with their followers. On May 28th, they picked one of mine! Pretty cool. Here's a screenshot:

I took the photo on a Tuesday hike adventure up on Mt Seymour with a buddy of mine. Guess there's still snow up there in late May! Here's the original shot:

Behind the Scenes

Occasionally, I like to snap a quick "behind the scenes" pic with my iPhone. I'll usually upload these to my Instagram account. Many of the images on the camera screen below eventually ended up in my interiors and architecture portfolio

Occasionally I am hired to shoot aerial, panoramic views of multi-family buildings that are yet to be built. These photos are taken high in the sky with the aid of a boom lift, the shadow of which you can see on the ground. These photos help market the property to potential pre-sale buyers - especially at the penthouse level!  For this particular project, I was hired by BLVD Marketing Group, the firm doing the marketing for Pennyfarthing Development Corp.

Travel Photography: Playa Del Carmen

I was lucky enough to spend a week in Mexico last month. And like any good photographer with his priorities in order, I couldn't wait to take some travel photos!

There is something about that Tropic of Cancer sky that is difficult to put into words. It's so much different than the sky here in Vancouver (and not just because it's cloudy here 80% of the time!). The Mexican sky is somehow muted and neon at the same time. Combined with green palms, turquoise water, white sand, and warm architecture it's a fun place to make pictures.

I came home with a lot of keepers, but I was particularly happy with how the two abstract photos below turned out.
