East Van Interior Design

I had the pleasure of shooting this beautiful East Vancouver home designed by the lovely Vancouver-based interior designer, Bryony Wright.

I was also lucky enough that the home owner liked my fine art photos and decided to hang some of my prints in prominent spaces in his home. It's always a treat to see your work printed on a large scale like this.

A large black-and-white abstract photo shot by me and printed on acrylic hangs on the wall of the master bathroom.

NYC

I have been planning a 6-12-month sabbatical of sorts in Paris, France. I plan to travel, work from abroad, find inspiration, learn some French, and eat a lot of cheese. Flying Half-way around the world, I figured that it was the perfect opportunity to make a pit-stop in New York City for a few days. I stayed at the charming Jane Hotel in a 50sqft (seriously) bunk-bed room. What more do you need?

NYC is a special place. Take a look at some of the captures I made while there:

The newly opened One World Trade Center, AKA Freedom Tower. The 9/11 memorial nearby was very powerful.

Central Park has a bit of a surreal quality about it. This is Sheep Meadow. A beautiful lawn with incredible architecture on all sides. The scale has to be seen.

An idea that I may re-visit in the future. This is Bryony standing in front of Barnett Newman's 18' wide Vir Heroicus Sublimis in the MOMA.

British Properties Contemporary

I had the opportunity recently to shoot a doozie of a home in the British Properties in West Vancouver. Shooting at twilight during the summer solstice makes for a bit of a long night, but it was worth it! Even though it presents its own set of challenges, I really like making photos of interiors at this time of day.

Endless angles to shoot in a beautiful home like this, so it was tough to pick and choose a few to share below. Enjoy!

Rooftop Lounge at Maddox Downtown

Pretty decent amenities at the brand-spanking new Maddox building at Drake and Howe in downtown Vancouver! This communal lounge boasts a big-screen TV, 10-seater dining room table, full kitchen, pool table, and even a little playground outside for the kids! Not bad. I got a little tour of the building while shooting a listing for Vancouver Realtor, Amar Pal. Give him a shout if you're interested in the details.

North Van Rancher

I've seen so many homes of all shapes and sizes in my years taking real estate photos in Vancouver, that I feel like I have a good handle of what I personally like and what I don't in a home. I'll take the well designed "big enough" home over the castle-esque one with double digit rooms.

For example, this rancher in North Vancouver was about 1800 square feet and it was more than sufficient. I like single story houses because while you give up something in basement storage, what you get in return is less "stuff" with which to fill your basement. Maybe it's the minimalist in me, but I'm a fan of less stuff. Unless that stuff is camera gear, of course...

Either way, check out a few shots of this home below. North Shore Realtors Clive Benjafield and Steve Mitchell have the details if you have $1.5 million kicking around!
